Medical education, emergency medical services and quality improvement.
As part of my fellowship, I am pursuing a MPH at the Brown University School of Public Health and have really enjoyed all the connections and opportunities this has opened up for me. I was really excited to have my MPH project on the association between the national state of sleep inadequacy with child development featured in the media including the New York Times, Newsweek and NBC News. My QI fellowship research project assesses the state of current EMS pediatric analgesia with the goal of developing an educational initiative to target and improve pediatric pain medication administration among prehospital providers. With the current Covid-19 pandemic, I have also been involved in quality initiatives to learn more about this new disease entity.
The people including the faculty (within both Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics!), my amazing co-fellows and all our incredible colleagues at the various Brown University-affiliated schools! I also love the flexibility to pursue as much (or as little) of my academic interests within my fellowship as I want with lots of support in terms of resources and from faculty (whose research interests span across almost every field in EM!). Finally, given that our hospital is the main pediatric hospital in the state with a large catchment area, the breadth and acuity of what we see in the ED as fellows is unparalleled and is great training!
The food is delicious! It is also close to the ocean (it is the ocean state after all…) and state parks, but still has all the attractions of a major city.
